Students at the bachelor's level with a specialization in physics have the opportunity to do work terms, both credited and paid, with the aim of acquiring professional experience in a public or private laboratory.
You can obtain three credits per work term, up to a maximum of six credits. The course codes PHY 2031 and PHY 3031 are used for research work terms in industry. Although these work terms can take place during any semester after the first year, most students choose to do their work terms during the summer semesters which follow the first and second years of their program.
The work terms must be approved by the professor in charge of work terms for the department, Richard Leonelli. The progress of the work term is evaluated according to the guidelines established at the start of the work term.
Interested students may contact companies directly, but normally they deal with the Service for work terms in science of the Faculty of arts and science. For more information on available work terms, contact the coordinator of work terms in science, Mme. Isabelle Lafleur (extension 7280) or see http://www.fas.umontreal.ca/stages.
